Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments that suits each child’s needs.
What does support look like at Kellyville Ridge?
Support at Kellyville Ridge is provided through a diverse and comprehensive range of approaches designed to meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of all students. These include:
- Academic intervention: targeted support to assist students in achieving their learning goals.
- Social and friendship support: opportunities for passive play and structured games in the library during breaks to encourage positive peer interactions and build friendships.
- Sensory and emotional support: access to Harmony Park Hangout, a dedicated space that offers sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing support.
- School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs): assistance provided both in classrooms and playground settings to support students with additional needs.
- Physical and assistive resources: availability of tools such as assistive technology, fidget toys, noise-cancelling headphones, and wobble cushions or stools to enhance focus and comfort.
- Specialist support services: collaboration with the school counsellor, Family Connect and support programs, New Street, and Stewart House to provide holistic support for students and families.
- Team around the school: guidance and additionaG support accessed through the Nirimba Office, connecting with Learning Wellbeing Officers, Specialist Risk Response Unit and the Assistant Principal Learning and Support to address complex needs.
We know when a student needs help when:
- teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
